Not cheddar
'Not cheddar'? For us, that's any farmhouse cheese made from cows' milk that isn't soft, cheddar or blue! This is one of my favourite parts of the site, just because it contains such variety: we've got hard farmhouse cheeses (cheddar alternatives?) like Menallack and Devon Oke, flavoured cheeses (Meldon, Cornish Garland, Wedmore), wonderful Westcountry versions of 'territorial' classics in Westcombe Red and Duckett's Caerphilly, the unique softer, creamy, Sharpham Rustic, and a couple of distinctive, pungent washed-rind cheeses (Keltic Gold, Alderwood). And if you fancy something that isn't cheddar but packs a bit of a punch, look no further than Diana Smart's Double Gloucester, shortlisted for a 'producers award' on Radio 4's Food Programme last year (2006). You probably know Yarg, the great success story of modern Westcountry cheese. But have you tried Wild Garlic Yarg? Subtly different!

"I used the Cheese Shed to send my brother in law a present last year as he is very difficult to buy for. He was thrilled with the way the cheese was wrapped and that each cheese had a card explaining where the cheese came from etc. My brother in law and sister were so impressed that they have also used the Cheese Shed for gifts . I am yet to receive a gift from the Cheese Shed myself, perhaps I will order some for myself!"
"I made my first order from The Cheese Shed just a couple of weeks ago. The service and quality of the cheese was excellent - will be making a large order for Xmas! Would definately recommend."
