Susi and Chris Batstone are producing a range of products (yoghourt, creme fraiche, cheese ...) using the milk from their own herd at West Hill Farm, near Ilfracombe.
But perhaps Buckland is the one they're most excited about! This small washed-rind cheese is delicate when young, growing in flavour as the cheese ripens - over three to four weeks. The middle is smoth and buttery, the edible rind a little stronger.
It wasn't long ago that Britsh washed rind cheeses were hard to find - and there still aren't so many of them. We know that there's an increasing interest in cheeses like Keltic Gold and Stinking Bishop, so it's great to welcome Buckland into the shed, and we're sure it'll be just as succesful!
Pasteurised, about 300g.
